Description
Snowflake Bentley, by Jacqueline Briggs Martin, is one of my favorite winter picture books. This book companion teaches kids about the life of Wilson (Snowflake) Bentley, the first person who successfully photographed snow crystals. It is jam-packed with activities to accompany the text and learn about snow science. Kids are naturally curious about snowflakes and snow, and you will find everything you need in this unit to last the entire winter!
This Snowflake Bentley Book Companion requires students to delve into analyzing and interpreting literature. You can use the materials with a whole class, with small groups, in a center, early finishers, or for independent study. For younger students, I would recommend it as a read-aloud. No matter which grade level you teach, there are plenty of activities for you to choose from and allow you to differentiate according to your students’ needs.
Units that integrate literature and science and are a favorite with my students. You will find activities to support the text, but also activities about snowflakes, the snow cycle, and snow science. There is enough here for a month of activities, but each activity is independent, so you can pick and choose what works best for your students.
