Cinco de Mouse-O! Literature Guide and Activities

Note: This product is available in my Cinco de Mayo Bundle: Pairing Fiction with Nonfiction. If you own that bundle, please do not purchase this product!

Cinco de Mouse-o, written and illustrated by Judy Cox, is one of my favorite picture books to read when studying Cinco de Mayo. This adorable picture book (not included in the packet), and the Common Core Aligned activities in this book companion are great for a whole class or literature circles. There are tons of reader response and language arts activities included. There is more here than you will probably have time to do, but I did that on purpose. Each classroom is different, and the students come to us with different interests, abilities, and learning styles. This product allows you to differentiate and select the materials that are best suited for the students in YOUR classroom.

Included in the literature guide are:
• A pre-reading wondering about the book activity
• Making predictions activity using the cover of the book
• Comprehension questions
• Story Map
• Activity to examine important events in the story
• Examining cause and effect
• Several activities to summarize the story
• A sequencing activity
• Identifying the themes in the story activity
• Compare and Contrast activity where students compare Mouse to Cat – two versions to differentiate
• Character map
• Character foldable
• Vocabulary cards with matching definitions
• Vocabulary book where students draw a picture, write the definition, and then write a sentence using the vocabulary word
• A book review
• Do you like Mexican food? survey
• Five creative writing activities (book review, diary entry, my favorite picture, the most exciting part, Mexican food opinion)
• Parts of speech sorting activity using vocabulary from the story – great for a center
• Syllable sorting activity using vocabulary from the story – great for a center
• Making compound words activity- center activity
