Description
Add a little history to your Thanksgiving activities this year. Your 3rd grade, 4th grade, and 5th grade students will love learning about the life and legacy of Sarah Hale, the single mother of five, composer of Mary Had a Little Lamb and first female magazine editor. Sarah singlehandedly took on the task of having Thanksgiving declared a national holiday. She is a real-life example of perseverance.
This unit can stand alone with the accompanying story Sarah Saves Thanksgiving (written by me) or can incorporate the picture books Thank You, Sarah!: The Woman Who Saved Thanksgiving, or Sarah Gives Thanks.
